Whip it, whip it good

Jan. 5 is National Whipped Cream Day – hooray!

Whipped Cream DAy

This past Thanksgiving, we used Trader Joe’s non-dairy coconut whipped topping on our dessert and it was so delicious! Then that disappeared from the store shelves so when we needed another non-dairy option, we tried So Delicious Cocowhip, which was delicious, too.

But for National Whipped Cream Day, it seems like we should try some of the real thing and make it ourselves. So I found the Perfect Whipped Cream Recipe. (Really, that’s the actual name of the recipe.)

So if you’d like to try it, visit the Add a Pinch blog  for the recipe.

If you’re not up to making your own, that’s OK, too. The holiday marks the birthday of Aaron “Bunny” Lapin, who invented whipped cream in an aerosol can, aka “Reddi-Wip,” so a can of Reddi-Wip would work, too. If you’re looking for something to put the whipped cream on, the Reddi-Wip website, has some delicious-looking recipes.

The unofficial song of the day is “Whip It” by Devo, but since the video isn’t really family friendly, I won’t post it here. Although I’ll probably sing it all day.

Our Medley Moments

We made our own whipped cream for the first time, using these ingredients. It didn’t turn out quite as thick as I thought it would be (aka how it looks in stock art photos) – even though we whipped it, whipped it good – but it was very tasty!

Update on the day after National Whipped Cream Day:

My hubby made pies tonight (blueberry and peach) so we decided to use the rest of the heavy whipping cream to make another batch of whipped cream. It came out MUCH thicker tonight. Evidently we didn’t whip it long enough yesterday. So when you make whipped cream, listen to Devo: Don’t just whip it, but whip it good.
