I have a new journey to share with you. It is one that I started back in high school, but it got derailed a few times along the way. Now I’m back on track.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve enjoyed writing songs. For years I considered them lyrics with a melody because they weren’t accompanied by music, but now I know they were songs all along, they just weren’t finished yet. For a brief time back in 1999/2000, I added guitar to some of them and performed them at open mics, but then my writing focus shifted to articles after getting a job at a newspaper.
About four years ago, in 2015, I started writing songs again and I haven’t stopped since. Ideally I’d like to take the next step and record them, but being that it costs nearly $1,000 per song to make a professional demo, including the mixing & mastering, I haven’t been in a position to do that. But thanks to modern technology, I can still record them and share them online, which I have been doing and last month I started a blog that focuses on my songwriting, leisahsongs.com. In this blog, I explain the meaning and inspiration behind each song, as well as write about what I learned about songwriting along the way.
If you’re interested in reading it, I suggest you start with the first post, “The Journey Begins,” because I begin with my earlier songs and progress from there. So far I’ve written about the songs through mid-2016 so I have several more to go. I hope you will join me on my journey!
